Where does egg hide?

Egg is in mayonnaise, dressings, pasta, cakes, pancakes, meatballs and mince mixes, and brushed on bread and pastries as a glaze. It can be listed as egg, egg white, egg yolk or egg powder. Egg allergy is one of the most common food allergies in young children, and many grow out of it.

The 14 allergens that EU law requires on food labels must be emphasised in the ingredients list, usually in bold. When one is missing from the label, or has got into the food by mistake, the producer recalls it and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration publishes the recall. “May contain traces of” is voluntary and doesn’t guarantee anything either way.
